FRAME YOUR DESIGN CHALLENGE
ask yourself:
“does my challenge drive toward ultimate impact, allow for a variety of solutions, and take into account context?”
dial those in, the refine until it’s the challenge that you’re excited to tackle.
STEPS
-
WRITE YOUR DESIGN CHALLENGE
- short & easy to remember
- single sentence that conveys what you wanna do
- often phrased as questions
- sets you up to be solution-oriented and to generate lots of ideas along the way
-
ARTICULATE AGAIN
-
properly framed design challenges:
- drive toward ultimate impact
- allow for variety of solns
- take into account constraints & context
articulate with these factors in mind.
-
DON’T GO TOO NARROW / TOO BROAD
- narrow → won’t offer enough room to explore creative solns
- broad → won’t give you any idea where to start
-
DO IT AGAIN
- you’ll arrive at good soln by asking the right questions
- quick test we run on a design challenge is to see if we can come up with 5 possible solns in just a few minutes.
- if so, you’re likely on the right track
