DEADLINES FOR THE PROJECT

  1. DISCOVERY 10/31 (Tues, 5PM)
    1. focus on FRAMING the problem, after identifying the client & their needs
    2. establishing proposed initial user flows
  2. PROTOTYPING 11/21 (Tues, 5PM)
    1. PROTOTYPING by moving in fidelity
      1. from wireframing to user flows, mockups, initial clickable prototype
  3. CONVERGING THE PROPOSAL 12/5 (Tues, 5PM)
    1. converge design process to propose interaction design intervention for selected client within UX design & interaction design paradigm for Web Design
    2. graphic design (deck) & visual design (prototype) & working prototype in Figma that evidences strong web principles & heuristics

WHAT ARE YOU PRODUCING THIS WEEK

  1. discovery for a proposal for an interaction design intervention for e-commerce site of your choosing

    1. FIRST research successful e-commerce project developed by Vancouver-based “Full Service Digital Agency” for a corporate client - Kit+Ace
  2. “agency” is Engine Digital

    1. existing clients: Kit+Ace, Adidas, NBA, Google, Rich Brilliant Willing, etc.
  3. start from existing project that can be “observed and adapted”

    1. learn BEST PRACTICES and to NOT DESIGN IN YOUR HEADS
  4. study the approach they took for this client for ID & Design Strategy and then ADAPT that approach to another client’s communication needs

    1. OBSERVE+ADAPT → DON’T COPY
    2. don’t design UI you’ve copied from somewhere
  5. once you settle with a client:

    1. do meaningful preliminary secondary research & begin to FRAME the specifics of your problem/proposal for a small digital intervention
      1. a web extension, app extension, etc
    2. that will then be developed into form.
    3. this research is key in designing something ORIGINAL.
  6. THEN: specifically, beginning from new skills, understanding & knowledge of how to develop “wire framing,” “user flows,” “mockups,” “skeleton animations”

    1. thus show & tell in a solidly designed deck presentation:
      1. what you’d propose to design for YOUR client
  7. this is a foundation level design school project you will not get overly involved in “designing on brand”

    1. meant to explore freely, w/o any needless or “false constraints”

ex) doesn’t matter if they use yellow & their font is Helvetica: you’re free to explore this
